About our vines

La Clausade, in the Heart of a preserved land

Following the restoration and transformation into Mas of the old building in Mauguio, in the southeast of the Hérault province (34), the team of La Clausade took on the challenge of creating its first vintages of organic wines, rosé, and white.

It is indeed no coincidence that the five Mas of the Domaine la Clausade are named after different grape varieties. Driven by a true passion for vines, the team chose to plant in the spring of 2020 six grape varieties, five of which are resistant, on the 18 hectares that border the cottages: Souvignier Gris, Muscaris, Soreli, Floréal, Syrah, and Artaban. The goal: to create eco-responsible and prestigious organic wines, grown on almost untouched land, in the heart of the Occitanie region.

Everything is thought to offer you high-quality organic rosé and white wines, delicate and fresh, with respect for the consumer. The ambition of the domain is to let the singularity of the soils of Mauguio express itself.

As a gift or for your own consumption, let yourself be seduced by the vintages of La Clausade, resulting from sustainable viticulture.

We have chosen to plant five resistant grape varieties out of six, to avoid treating our vines with phytosanitary products.

Our grape varieties

What is a Resistant Grape Variety?

Today in France only one species of vine is planted: the Vitis vinifera. Its weakness is its sensitivity to two diseases: mildew and powdery mildew. This makes it impossible to produce quality wines if they are not treated. Unfortunately, these practices are both harmful for the soil and for the consumer. The question is: how to avoid such overconsumption of these products?

For half a century, research has been focused on crossing several vine varieties to maintain the quality of Vitis vinifera while introducing natural resistance to mildew and powdery mildew. To achieve this, the experts use existing grape varieties, crossed with pollen from vines with natural resistance to diseases. They thus obtain a resistant grape variety. Today, there are about twenty varieties of these new grape varieties. This is a form of innovation for the wine industry. It allows us to obtain an incredibly singular wine.
